    JBL Company History

    JBL, an American audio electronics company founded by James Bullough Lansing in 1946 after leaving Altec Lansing a year before. Initially, the company was called Lansing Sound, Incorporated but was later changed to James B. Lansing Sound or JBL. The company primarily produces loudspeakers and related equipments. By mid 1950s, JBL became a major player in the audio market. JBL is also a major cinema loudspeaker manufacturer and their products actually form the basis for the development of THX loudspeaker standard.

    JBL composes of two independent divisions - the JBL Consumer (www.jbl.com) which produces audio equipments for the home market and the JBL Professionals (www.jblpro.com) produces equipments for the professional market such as studio, tours and cinema markets.

    Originally, JBL products could be found in Ford's top of the line vehicle audio systems. Now their products can be found in Toyota's line up.

    Sony History

    Sony Corporation, founded by Masaru Ibuka and his colleague Akio Morita after World War 2 in 1945. Originally, the company was called Tokyo Telecommunications Engineering Corporation. Sony is one of the world's largest media conglomerate that owns numerous mass media related companies in television, radio, publishing, movies and the Internet with revenue exceeding US$99.1 billion as of 2008.     Altec Lansing Company History

    Altec Lansing has been providing quality audio since the early 90s. The movie theatre entertainment were able to take a huge step forward with the introduction of sound in movies with the help from a group of engineers at Western Electric who later founded the All Technical Products Company. It was in the 40s All Technical Products Company decided to expand its manufacturing sector by purchasing Lansing Manufacturing Company and thus Altec Lansing Corporation was formed on May 1st 1941.

    The company continued to provide innovative products like the Duplex speakers and amplifiers that are still being used even today.During that time the company was also responsible for military electronics such as Anti-Submarine Detection equipment and was a prime contractor for most of the MAD Airborne Detection equipment for the Navy.

    Alte Lansing entered the home market in the mid 40s with speakers, amplifiers and even televisions.

    The company continued to research and develope state of the art sound systems until the early 90s when the personal computing market started to gain traction. Its PC audio systems were basically used in most of the major PC makers such as IBM, Dell and Hewlett-Packard.

    Until now, Altec Lansing is still the leader and audio innovator in the movie and PC audio industry as well as in home threatre entertainment.

    Bose Company History

    Dr. Amar G. Bose was an MIT electrical engineering grad student in the 1950s. During that time he purchased a stereo system which did not live up to its impressive technical spec. He was disappointed.

    Bose Corporation was founded by him in 1964 when he was an MIT electrical engineering professor. Its mission and also the company slogan, is to achieve "better sound through research".
